Question

Hydration Compatible?

My 5 year olds want a pack that you can use a (source) hydration system in (want to be like Mom and dad and Big Brother) - the Kelty Starfish is great but is hard to hind. Can I put a Hydration bladder in this one?

My daughter used a hydration pack in hers. We stuck the tubing out the top and used a carabiner to hold the hydration pack up, I attached the carabinieri to the top of the hydration pack and to the hang loop on top of the bag. Worked great instead of buying a new bag.

There is no actual pouch to hold a hydration bladder, but you can certainly put one it and just hang the tube out the top. I am sure it would work, but wouldn't be as good as a pack that the tube comes out the bottom.

The pack does not fit a hydration system.

You might want to try the MEC Kinetic Race Hydration Pack which is more similar to the Kelty Starfish.

But at the same price, you could have the MEC Mountain Fountain-Standard Hydration Pack which includes a hydration system. Has a longer look but I think it's about the same length as the teeny genie.

Question

ok for adults?

Hi Im an adult, 5' 11" and 155lb and i really like the design of this pack

Do you think I could use it or would the straps be too short or too close together?

Anything else that might make it unusable as an adult?

I'm a 5'4" woman who owns the teeny genie. I bought it because there wasn't a single adult daypack in MEC that fit my short torso length or had the specs I was looking for. The TG fit great (in terms of torso length) and I was set.

That being said, in actual practice the short straps became a problem. Mostly because the transition area and buckles chafe under the arms.

The only reason the pack fit my torso length is because I have an unusually short torso. I am quite confident that the teeny genie would be far too short in the torso for an adult who was 5'11".

My hope is that someday MEC adds the teeny genie feature advantages (extra pocket under lid, water bottle pockets on sides) to the adult genie. And offers daypacks with torso lengths suitable for short women.

Hi,
I just think it's a bit small, only up to grade school kids. For your height, I don't think so, just check out my kids pictures for reference. 'Hope this helps ;)Goodluck!

Well, one of the parents who reviewed this pack said they used it for commuting. I would not suggest it however. Nothing about this pack was designed to fit adults (back lenght, shoulders, waist belt, etc.) I am sure you would be able to strap it on, it just would not be very comfortable. I would recommend trying the MEC Genie 30 DSL instead.

Question

pack for 10-13 year old boy

I'm looking for a pack for my 10 year old son and hope it will last for about 3 years. Would the Teenie Genie be the right size for him? Or should I consider the Genie 30 DSL? I was reading reviews of the Teenie Genie and noticed they were all for very small children.

Thanks,
Jim

I have a very slender 8 going on 9 year old boy, and it fits him perfectly right now. I myself am 5'1" slender build and can put it on, but would not be able to wear it loaded for long periods of time, as the straps are closer together and narrow for smaller children.
My two younger sons use this bag for school, my older two children use the MEC Book Bag Daypack.
I hope that helps some!

I would go to the store and try a Teeny Genie or Genie 30 DSL on your son. My son is 8 yrs old and the Teeny Genie is just the right fit for him. But, I've seen 9 yr olds use the pack and perhaps another year of so, the pack may not fit as well.

The answer depends on how tall he is already. I am a 5"6 woman and the Teeny Genie is definitely too small for me (sits too high on my back) but the Genie DSL barely fits me and would be too big for anyone shorter so I would not recommend that one. A better alternative would be the Alpinelite 30L pack, which is very similar to the genie DSL but comes in two sizes (Reg and Long). The regular size couls potentially fit a shorter back so I suggest measuring your boy`s back lenght to determine if it will fit him. If not, go with the Teeny genie.

Question

Would this be a good pack for a small woman VS the Ridgemont Daypack?

I was looking at this bag and the Ridgemont on the website. I couldn't find this bag in the store, so I ended up buying the Ridgemont. But I like the design and size of this bag more and am wondering if the straps on this bag are as comfy as the ones on the Ridgemont. Thanks for your help!

For anyone else reading this question, I also purchased this bag. I'm 5'3" and about 120lbs and find it pretty good for outings. It's really just a long sack but has a handy compartment at the top. The bottle holders at the sides are also handy. I wouldn't recommend it for heavy duty hiking or such, but it's fine just for toting a lunch, snacks and stuffing an extra jacket for the day.

answer 2
The Teeny Geenie daypack has thinner straps than the Ridgemont daypack. The straps are comfortable but this pack is designed specifically for children. You will likely find that it is too small for you. You may want to consider the MEC Blitz Crag daypack (5024-262).

I got a chance to pop into MEC today so I'll answer my own question... the straps are too short and spaced too closely together for an adult-sized back, and despite being a bigger bag, the straps have less padding. It's such a great little bag, I'm sad it doesn't fit me! But I'm more than happy with the Ridgemont, so it's no loss.

I think you could machine wash this but I would first put it into one of those mesh laundry bags that people use for washing delicates. Reason being all those cords and straps would probably get tangled in the machine and possibly damage the bag.

The MEC Teeny Genie Daypack is not machine washable; I would recommend using a bit of dish detergent and warm water with a sponge or cloth and then rinse the bag well and hang to dry.

Question

What is the torso length of this pack?

asked 2 years, 1 month ago
by

on MEC Teeny Genie Daypack

Answers
answer 1
The ideal torso length for this pack is approximately 36cm. However, many parents find that this pack works fine for children that are smaller than that size as the pack hangs down a bit below their waist until they grow into it. Reviewers for this pack have found that it fit people up to around 5 feet tall so it will work on torsos longer than 36cm - it will just sit up higher on the back.. However, it is designed for small children so the straps are set quite close together and therefore it is not an ideal pack for a child who is taller and has a broad chest and shoulders.

Would this fit a binder or a full sized agenda?

answer 1
The dimensions of this pack are 45cm by 27cm by 19cm. The dimensions of a 1" binder are approximately 30.5cm by 28cm by 2.5cm so a regular binder will likely be just a little bit too wide to fit in this bag.
