The Scuba Yolk K-valve is in our snowsports section because it is an accessory to the BCA and RAS avalanche vests, which fill with air at the pull of a cord. These vests keep you above the snow if you are struck by an avalanche. This adapter allows the float cartridges to be filled from a scuba tank, so that you don't have to buy a new one each time. This way, the float cylinder can be filled at any local scuba shop. It also increases the availability of the avalanche vests to our members, because we can ship empty cartridges through normal mail.
Is that a good way to travel with a avalanche vest?
Because a filled cartridge is often restricted in airplanes, could I empty my cartridge (at the same time I get to try out my floating vest), fly with an empty cartridge and fill it at my destination (given that I found a local scuba shop there that can refill my cartridge)?
Would that be a good way to avoid having to leave my avalanche vest at home because my airline doesn't allow or surcharge filled cartridge?

Hi there,
That is definitely the idea with the valve adapters. You absolutely want to source out a shop that can refill your tank before you go, but most scuba shops (and even some paintball shops) should be able to refill your cartridge for you.
