Yes, you would need to select the 130 mm brake size. The maximum brake width that Dynafit offers for the TLT Radical FT is 130 mm.

For the 110mm size the brakes will fit over any ski with a waist width up to 110mm. For the 130mm size the brakes will ftr over any ski with a waist width up to 130mm.

Question

Do you think the Dynafit Radical FT with the 110mm brake will fit a ski that is 111mm at the waist?

I know, I know...the 110 radical fits skis 110 and narrower...however my ski is 111 and I rather not have the brakes from a 130 sticking way out if I can help it. Thanks. Unless the 130mm radical would not stick out? Does that count as a 2nd question? 3rd question.

The 110mm brake will fit a 111mm waist ski. Usually, ski brakes have a few mm of tolerance and ski techs can use a pair of pliers to bend out the arms slightly to get the necessary clearance.

Question

dynafit TLT Radical FT

Hi
is it true that with the latest (2012/13) model of TLT Radical FT you can not remove / change the binding brakes ?
I was hoping to swap the 130 mm brakes for my old tlt tech brakes (most likely 110 mm) and use them on my current ski trab stelvio freeride skis (84 mm width) and put the 130 mm brakes once I change for wider skis. The old Radical FT model (2011/12) brakes could have been removed / change - what is the reason for Dynafit not to allow to do that anymore ? And if that is the truth - if I somehow manage to get the brakes out - does that affect the guarantee ? Thanks for answers !

For the 2012/13 season, Dynafit has updated the TLT Radical ST and FT binding brakes by making them unremovable. Until last year, they used a retainer clip which allowed users to remove the brakes while the binding was mounted on the skis. Now, the retainer clip has been eliminated and the brake wraps around the heel unit, preventing any brake swap while mounted since the heel post is in the way. This was done to allow Dynafit to get TUV certification in Europe and prevent some cases of brakes falling off during touring. While it is still technically possible to removed the brakes, it has become significantly harder. The ski techs at the Vancouver store actually don't recommend doing this due to tight the retaining nut is loctited in place.- More information on this can be viewed at wildsnow.com: http://www.wildsnow.com/8470/radica...

Instead, base plates with different brakes widths are offered to swap brake sizes if needed. The heel unit will need to be swap from the older base plate to the newer one.

Question

right binding for my AT needs?

I am skiing the Haute Route in April and want an appropriate binding for that trip and other similar trips (I am tired of renting skis/bindings). I am a strong skier and also want to be able to do a bit of resort skiing as prep. I have some Garmont Radiums I bought from MEC in 2010. What Dynafits do you recommend ( I want a reliable binding)? thanks

I think that you will be very happy with this binding- it is made for ski mountaineering, freeriding and touring. This binding will handle resort skiing, as long as you're keeping your feet on the ground with an occasional drop off a small rock.

The TLT Radical FT is made with the strongest, lightest materials possible (7075 forged aluminum, CrMo steel, high-strength plastic, stainless steel, Hexcel carbon), including a carbon binding plate that connects the toe and heel pieces and provides rigidity underfoot similar to the Fritchi Freeride, giving you the downhill security you are looking for.

Yes, you can. I was forced to do the same (93 mm ski width with 110 mm crampons) since Dynafit does not carry the 100 mm version in North America. However, Dynafit is planning to bring the 100 mm version to North America for the 2013/14 season.

When you purchase two or more of the big three ski items (skis, boots, or bindings) we'll mount your bindings for free. This offer applies to all types of ski equipment sold at MEC, and proof of purchase is required.

Just the bindings would not qualify for a free installation.

How soft are your skis? You may want to double check the spacing between the heel of your boot and the binding. If the ski flexes hard enough, the heel binding can push the toes right out.

Sizing

How do I know what size of this binding to buy?

The sizing itself is the width between the brakes of the bindings and is dependent on the waist width of your ski. You want the binding brake width to be larger than the waist width of your ski.
